Adam will take you through the basic design principles to enable you to draw and design your ideal accessory be it shoulder, messenger or old school satchel. Using traditional crafting processes, hand tool the very best bark-tanned English leather to a professionally high standard with Adam’s expert help. The locally sourced leather is traditionally finished using beeswax infused with various nut oils giving it a lifetime of wear. This is an opportunity to make something for yourself or a loved one that will last – your own heirloom to pass on.

Invisible Thread in Plucked (A True Fairy Tale)

Follow a journey from beauty to beast and beyond in this darkly comedic new show from Invisible Thread. Expect scary and haunting, funny and tragic puppet theatre from a new, dynamic puppet theatre risen from ashes of the much-mourned Faulty Optic. The pedigree of this company has a national and international reputation for creating unique and haunting visual theatre, strange animated figures and dark, macabre humour to present surreal adult puppetry. Plucked draws on images and themes from life and myth, and uses live video-feed painting, object theatre, puppetry and animation to tell its murky and often hilarious tale. Suitable for brave, hardy souls aged thirteen and above. A welcome return to the tried-and-tested format of compelling work from the former Faulty Optic under the watchful gaze of artistic director Liz Walton. An absolute must for those with an eye for animation and a tall, dark tale!

The Paper Cinema in… ‘The Rock Charmer’ & ‘King Pest’

A very welcome return to inky goodness from The Paper Cinema. Tonight we’re offering a double bill of animated theatre which has appeal for the whole family. The Rock Charmer transports us to the pillars of an old quarry where we encounter an old man scratching at the mysteries of the rocks. What have the rocks seen? What stories do these weather-blown sentinels have to tell? Unwrap geological time to explore the layers of the rock with the Rock Charmer. King Pest is the second helping in tonight’s feast of theatrical ingenuity. King Pest is an adaptation of the short story by Edgar Allan Poe, in which two sailors flee the city of London to seek refuge in a sealed off town which is riddled with plague. The Paper Cinema was devised by artist Nic Beard from ink blotches in his sketchbook, which evolved into fully-fledged puppet actors to create a bewitching fusion of live music and puppetry. An absolute must for all doodlers, illustrators and lovers of imaginative theatre and cinema. A grand night out for the family too – suitable for all theatre explorers over the age of seven.

This season we encourage you to design and make your own with an exciting opportunity to learn ancient and modern techniques of leather craft with artist Adam Morrigan. With guidance on how to hand craft leather (including carving and moulding), create your bespoke design with Adam’s expert help using the very best bark-tanned English leather. Finish using natural waxes, dyes and oils. Look out for Adam’s next workshop in November.

The Old School Dance

A rescheduled date from the Old Dance School following this summer’s postponement. Harnessing energy from the elements and inspiration from their unstoppable sense of adventure, this formidable folk collective fuses seven of the exciting young folk scene’s finest musicians. Tonight the Old Dance School blends fiddles with soaring brass crescendos, wind and vocal harmonies with earth shattering grooves to create blistering tunes and vivid songs. Their journey began in 2006 as a gathering of friends in the garden of the old Betty Fox school of ballet in Birmingham, then legendary party venue, from where they take their name. Five years on, 40,000 miles and many dozens of festivals (and several trips to A&E) later they continue to deliver a startling ‘take’ on contemporary folk which is both firmly-rooted and unashamedly forward-thinking. This septet may seem fresh-faced, but don’t let them fool you! The diversity and sheer talent of each musician combines forces to build a creative, infectious fizz. Siyaya

Live and direct from Makokoba, Bulawayo’s oldest township, Siyaya celebrate the greatest African instrument, the human voice. Colourful, climactic and bursting at the seams with energy, Siyaya compliment lively dances and liquid tones with superb percussive rhythms and the sweet acapella harmonies exploring the rich cultures and traditions of Africa. Siyaya (pronounced “see-yeye-yah) means “we are on the move” – a literal description of their journeys all over the world, as well as of an identity, an ethos and a heartfelt belief, the name could not be more apt.

Donkey Derby Drawfest

The newly-built Vale Hospital opens its doors for the first time in the coming weeks. Prema already has a foot in the door to make sure that the hospital (alongside top-notch healthcare) is brimming with beautiful pieces of art generated with, and by the community. Today we’re at Prema, using live donkeys as our inspiration (as an homage to the old branch-line puffer The Dursley Donkey which used to scuttle along the Littlecombe valley just by the site of the new hospital). Artist Imogen Harvey-Lewis leads informal, friendly and gloriously creative drawing sessions in which you can explore a host of materials to draw, sculpt and tap into your talents. Once all the donkeys are drawn, your sketches will be used to help a mosaic artist to create an original piece of artwork to brighten up the hospital walls. A grand day out for the whole family and it won’t cost a penny! All you need is a willingness to get stuck-in and a can-do approach to having fun. Go on – mule love it!

Brush up on your drawing skills with plenty of support and guidance from artist Paul Fowler. Learn to improve proportion, scale and measuring and move on to explore a variety of drawing materials before we go on to incorporating colour, chalks and paint towards the end of the course. Suitable for all levels of ability, this open class is ideal for those who want to practise their skills and for those who are just starting out. This course is highly recommended for those studying either GCSE or A-level art at school or college. All materials provided (price includes model fee).
